Hanukkah is a celebration of light, warmth, and good deeds. This year, the Riga Jewish Community is launching a charitable campaign, "Hanukkah Miracle: Light and Warmth in Every Home", to support 100 families across Latvia.
For many families, winter is not only about cold weather but also the challenge of paying utility bills. Through this initiative, we aim to help cover heating and electricity costs so these families can enjoy the winter holidays in comfort and warmth.
Each of The Social Centre members has a unique story and a challenging destiny. The programme "Lunch at Home" is a special support programme for those who, due to their mental or physical health, are unable to supply themselves with lunch. The programme requires a constant and significant amount of funding. With the generous support of our partners, we already have most of the money needed to help the programme members in 2022. But we need your support to raise the missing €8,400 to provide daily meals for 13 people throughout this year.
Hundreds of collapsed tombstones and ruined burial places are in dire need of refurbishment at the New Jewish Cemetery in Smerli. Restoring a single memorial by strengthening its foundations costs 200 euros. Our goal is to raise 2000 euros to renovate 10 burial sites and preserve the memory and historical significance of our ancestors!
Hanukkah is a time of miracles, light and good deeds. This holiday season, we would like to bring light and warmth into the houses of 400 families, assisted by the Welfare Centre. In the everyday sense, light and warmth are electricity and heating. With 20 000 € collected, we can help 400 families to pay their winter utility bills.
